The greatest wealth is health

I was running an antenatal clinic this morning when a couple came in. The wife is about 3 weeks postnatal and she is suffering from Hypertension. She was started on antihypertensive medication (by the doc at the hospital) upon discharged from the ward and was ordered to come to her nearest clinic for BP check up and review by the doc after 1 week. However, she came to my clinic after 3 weeks! When I asked her why she didn't come earlier..she replied"takde orang nak hantar pegi klinik"(nobody to bring her to the clinic) so I looked up to her husband. As if he understand that I needed his explanation, he answered " saya sibuk, tak sempat"...LOLzz. The problem now is that her BP shoot up and she needs hospitalization to stabilised her BP.(Ops! Should I tell you that hypertensive disorder in pregnancy (HDP) is one of the commonest cause of maternal death? and maternal mortality rate reflects the standard of our antenatal care too.) You can read further here
So back to that couple, do you think the husband agrees to let the wife to be admitted? If bringing her to the clinic is a quite a task for him, to let her be admitted to the ward is even a tougher job right? and my job is even more difficult...to convince them that admission to the ward is the best option they have.
I wonder why some ppl in our community still put other things as a priority compared to their health..The greatest wealth is health!
I come to a conclusion that awareness and level of education play an integral part to determine your attitude towards health.
Psssst: That lady went back at her own risk! :( I failed to convince them...Hopefully nothing happens to her...but still, I grrrrrrr (geram beb!) at her hubby :p

akak, just to let you know that here in moscow, pple no matter how busy they are, how poor they are, setua manapon mereka n dah tak larat nak jalan camnepon, they all 've very high concern on health... n that's the thing i love bout moscovites, n i love to deal wt them... they take every single word n remember it forever just for the benefit of their health and life...

poor that woman, how cruel the husband rite... pray nothing bad will happen to her...

Salam Nat...
Gosh..the excuses they both given were unacceptable, just for the sake to cover-up themselves only...they just do nothing other than harmful to own self..

What a pity when both husband and wife take things easy on own health...

It's quite frustrating for you too since you can't convince the couple to get admitted right?

Shieda,

Oh how I wish I could change our ppl mentality and awareness towards health! I guess in developed country, level of education an availability of health info make the ppl more aware and really bother about their own health..

nnti when you come back and work here...you'll face all of this..so annoying and irritating!bila lah mereka yg seangkatan dgn diorang ni nak berubah..sedih la.

Noushy,

Yes I hate it when I know what is the best for them but they failed to realise it..and one fine day I'll deal with the complications they suffer because of their own attitude..rasa lagi tension...coz I know it can be prevented.
but I read somewhere said that you need 30 years to change ones attitude..so perhaps I tak sempat nk change their attitude but may be I'll try to change their kids attitude towards health kan?

Ish mmg frust lah working in this situation and dealing with this kind of ppl :(

I hate men yg put everything else BUT their wife as priority. has he forgotten tht he's part of the pregnancy too? apa ingat wife tu boleh tiba2 pregnant w/o him doing anything ke?
