TO AFIQ, FROM BAK

It's twelve midnight. Something woke me up. I'm lying on my bed coughing my night away. It has been like this for the past few days. Beside me are my two eldest sons. On my left is Abang Ngah (Danial) with his light green Popeye pyjamas and on my right is Aiman my eldest son with his current favourite pyjamas Superman.
Abang Ngah is sleeping in his usual unusual position, with a pillow tucked under his stomach and raising his buttock. His eyes are closed shut as is his mouth, whereas Aiman is also sleeping in a similarly unusual position (with both his legs dangling down from the bed) but his eyes are partially closed or partially opened (depends on which way you interpret it) and his mouth opens and occasionally snores.
Something is missing, something is not right. Where's my wife? where's my youngest son Afiq? I suddenly realised that both of them are not where they are supposed to be. I'm trying to fool myself, i knew that both of them were at the Hospital Baling where Afiq was admitted today. This is the second time that Afiq was admitted, with the first one is due to Physiological Jaundice when he was only 3 days old. This time, he was admitted due to bronchopneumonia or in laymens term, a lung infection.
My dear little afiq had been unwell for the past few days prior to his admission when he suddenly developed a fever last Wednesday. His fever gradually progressed into a cold and cough. After 2 days, my wife and I decided to start Afiq on a course of oral antibiotics. His fever seems to be settling but his phlegm is getting worse along with his blocked nose.
Then, the turn of event got worse when suddenly my dear little Afiq refused to feed. His last proper bottle was on Saturday night. I tried to feed him, my wife also tried but to no avail. He just lost interest in feeding. We thought it might be due to the phlegm so we brought him to Baling Hospital Casualty department for a suction to be done to Afiq as a supportive treatment to clear his phlegm. A decision I later regret. We only managed to suck out a small quantity of phlegm as his phlegm is so thick. Afiq later vomited a few more phlegm along with partially digested milk and a lot mucus. It is so easy (as a doctor) when you had to do to someone else's child but when it comes to your own, it is not.
Being a sweet little Afiq, he seems normal. Kept on smiling when he was smiled to, kept on laughing when played to. As if he was trying to tell us not to worry about him. but the long period of semi fasting is getting into him. By Sunday afternoon he looked tired.
When we got back that afternoon, he was looking lethargic. I felt his anterior fontanelle had sunken (an area just above the forehead which is situated in the middle) and his pulse rate is also increasing. Both were the signs of dehydration. I suggested to my wife that we should bring Afiq to see a paediatrician later that evening in Alor Star. My wife insisted that I call my ex-boss. Dr Teh, wether she is available today. I immediately called her and consulted her. She advised me to do a chest xray and then to send the image to her by MMS. We wasted no time as we rushed to Baling Hospital Casualty department to get an xray done. After the xray was done, we were waiting for the film to be ready. when we saw the film, my worse fears were confirmed. I knew that Afiq had pneumonia but I had to be sure. So I sent the images of the film to Dr Teh. She tells me that it is pneumonia and it is best if Afiq is to be admitted for further treatment. Later in the evening, Afiq was admitted again in the space of 5 months. Afiq needs to start on an intravenous antibiotics and intravenous drip (for his dehydration).
This is not a dream, this is real as I thought to myself again that night. I pray to god for Afiq and was thankful that it is not worse than this.
TO AFIQ, BAK PRAY FOR YOU TO GET WELL SOON, AND BAK MISSES YOU TONIGHT AND OF COURSE BAK LOVES YOU VERY MUCH.

Today's menu

Today is my day with the three heroes. Luckily everybody is recovering from common cold. My hubby requested for something different for lunch...meaning that not the ordinary..nasi + lauk. He want Lontong!..hmmm quite a tough job to cook that alone with my 3 heroes but for my beloved hubby I did it. Not only that, I baked bread and butter pudding too :)

Lontong..anyone?

Bread and butter pudding..my version hehehheee

Look who's enjoying my pudding?

So guys nothing much to write today, so for those who is still on a weekend holiday tomorrow..enjoy your Sunday! I'll be working tomorrow.

My workstation?..My dream bed.

The French Belgravia Collection bed...so irresistible!

I was blog hopping this morning when I stumbled upon a blog which showed the owner's workstation and also a place where the owner did the digital work and blog hopping. Then, I thought...where is mine? Oh, do you want to know where usually I do all these blogging things? On my bed! Do you believe me? Of course you have to.. because I have a few reasons why I'm blogging on my bed.

1. I have a small baby (5 month old) who always lie beside me while I'm blogging...so where do you think the best place for me to blog?...Yes! On my bed.

2. I have a wireless internet (Streamyx) connection at home, so why should I sit on a chair when I can lie down on my bed?

3. My bedroom also has a Television set and if I lie on my bed while blogging I could also watch TV at the same time but if I do it somewhere else I cannot watch my fav show..
Well, with the 3 reasons I guess my hubby is willing to get me a new more comfortable bed. So I started browsing for my dream bed and I found this site Guest Beds. Personally I love french style bed with light colours such as white, beige or light brown. I wish I could have their French Belgravia collection. It is chic and fashionable and most importantly it suits my bedroom theme which is country French style. The French Belgravia collection also came with matching furniture. Definitely I would choose their ambience side tables and also ambience dressing table. You should have a look at it...very French looking! Apart from their very wide collection and nice looking beds and furnitures, I guess the other important part is the price right? I found that their range of prices are also reasonable. Oh I can start dreaming of having it now..and my blogging hours will be like heaven..on my dream French Belgravia bed!

More awards..

Today since I have a little bit of time to spend in front of my laptop (ops!today is a weekend holiday here :) ), I think it is a good idea to collect all the awards given by my blogging friends since the past few weeks..Sorry my dear friends only now I have the time to put the awards up here..but as usual better late than never right? :)

My first award this time around came from my dear blogging Friend...NOUSHY!

Art Prize and Award
"This prize has arisen from the daily visits that I dedicate to many blogs which nourish me and enrich me with creativity. In them I see dedication, creativity, care, comradeship, but mainly, ART, much art. I want to share this prize with all those bloggers that entertain me day to day and to share this prize with those who enrich me every day. Doubtlessly, there are many and it will be hard to pick just a few, the people I will name today deserve this prize, as do the very long serious list of bloggers I also enjoy to read, but I will name the first 10 and will leave the rest of the work to all the bloggers that visit other's blogs and are nourished by them."

Thank you Noushy for a very encouraging award even though I'm quite sure that my blog has nothing to be proud of in terms of art. However, I will make sure that this award will reminds me to beautify and put some art work to it in future :) Again to Noushy..TQ very much!

ISO 9001:2000 surveillance audit is coming!!!

Huh! That is the last thing I want to know...Surveillance Audit by SIRIM. Oh ya, let me tell you..
My office (District Health Office) and all the clinics under it have ISO 9001:2000 certification. I think most of us know about this quality management system (QMS). I've been involved in this area since 2 years ago when my friend resigned her position as 'Management Representative' a.k.a MR. I was then appointed to replace her. It is a very tough position and needs a lot of sacrifice...money, time, energy, family and etc.
As a MR my job is to coordinate all the quality management system (QMS) related activities such as internal audits, Management Review Meeting (MRM), continual improvement and training. Talking about training, each year I have to organise at least 2 times training for our new staff regarding awareness of ISO 9001:2000 in our department apart from other Management Courses . Usually I will be busy preparing for it at the beginning of the year and this year we will have it once on this coming 24th of March and the next one in July. I found that this course (Awareness of ISO 9001:2000) is very useful for our new staff because in that course we will try to introduce them what is ISO 9001:2000 and how it is done in our department. It will help them to do their job efficiently and also comply to the QMS that we had already developed. As for me, I've gained a lot of experiences through handling this course. Although it is tiring but I found that I'm incline towards this admin job compared to clinical job..hehehe but that doesn't mean that I hate seeing patients :)
To my dear reader wish me luck ya for my next surveillance audit..hopefully there's no non-conformity found.

All down with URTI :(

I've been quite busy since the start of this week, with clinic sessions and also few paperworks. On Tuesday Aiman started to feel unwell. He had left periorbital swelling (swelling around his eye) most probably due to allergic reaction but we still cannot find the cause. We gave him some antihistamines and he then 'knockout'! and the swelling gradually subsided. Later that day he started having blocked nose and cough. His condition worsen at night with high fever and cough with a lot of phlegm. Yesterday he did not go to the school coz he felt very lethargic..and then, the second victim Afiq started to experience the symptoms. High grade fever, runny nose, poor feeding..Oh dear! I'm worry about his weight too..because in an infant if he/her feeds poorly only for a day you'll see the effect drastically. We just gave him antipyretic to tackle down the fever and we have not yet start him on any antibiotic since his symptoms look like of a virus in origin. Danial also experienced the same symptoms minus the fever (lucky for him). Then, my hubby started to have cough..but not too bad just like mine. A little throat discomfort and mild bodyache. We are all down with URTI ! A very common infection.

Today everybody is in a recovery period...Aiman still having cough, Danial too and Afiq still left with mild runny nose..me and hubby are much better compared to 2 days ago. Hopefully by this Saturday everything will go off..Amin.
